ABOUT DYSPORT®

Since it won FDA-approval in the early 2000s, Botox® has led the market in botulinum injectables. But, there are several excellent alternatives including Dysport® and Xeomin®. New Beginnings Aesthetic & Wellness with Dr. Theocharides offers all three of these options. Dysport® has been growing in popularity in part because for some patients, it is a lower cost alternative with longer lasting results. It is particularly popular among men who want a very subtle and natural looking improvement. Dysport® is used to treat moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows by reducing specific muscle activity. Since wrinkles are caused by repeated muscle movement, even young adults suffer from these frown lines and wrinkles.

HOW DOES DYSPORT® WORK?

Just like Botox, Dysport® is an prescription injectable treatment that contains purified derivatives of botulinum toxin. When carefully injected in small doses, Dysport® temporarily relaxes the muscles in the upper face to minimize wrinkles, creases and frown lines. Dr. Theocharides will place a single injection into 5 strategic points between and above the eyebrows. The active ingredient in Dysport® will temporarily prevents muscle contractions that cause frown lines, leaving the rest of your face to move naturally. Dysport® is for patients that do not want wrinkles nor do they want a “frozen look”. Dysport® is known for giving very natural and subtle results. The treatment is fast and easy. It takes between 10 and 20 minutes and most patients see results within 3 to 5 days.* There is minimal downtime after the treatment so you will be able to go about your day after the injection. Dysport® can last up to 4 months in most patients.*

DYSPORT® VS. BOTOX®

In general, Dysport® vs. Botox® are very similar. They both contain a slightly different chemical variation of botulinum toxin which is used to relax the muscle that cause frown lines, forehead lines and crows feet. Numerous studies have been done to compare the benefits of Dysport® vs. Botox® to determine which is best. Patients of Dysport® report results with in 3-5 days where Botox® patients don’t report results until day 5-8.* The overall findings are that both treatments yield similar benefits and results. Determining which is best should be decided between the individual patient and cosmetic doctor, based on the specific condition, needs and goals of that patient.

BOTOX® VS. DYSPORT® FOR CROW’S FEET

A study was published in 2012 in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery to show the findings of a split-face, double-blind comparison of Botox® and Dysport® in the treatment of crow’s feet. The researchers as well as the patients did not know which side received which treatment. The study suggested that, Dysport® delivered a greater improvement in the appearance of crow’s feet when participants contracted their facial muscles as much as they could. Two thirds of the patients even said they prepared the the results on the side of the face treated with Dysport®.
