BOTOX®

ABOUT BOTOX® COSMETIC

Botox® Cosmetic is the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment. Botox® Cosmetic is a prescription injection used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe forehead lines, crow’s feet lines, and frown lines between the eyebrows in adults. The active ingredients in Botox® relax the face by weakening muscles and blocking certain nerves that cause deep wrinkles.

WHAT IS BOTOX® COSMETIC?

Botox® is an FDA-approved cosmetic treatment for patients with moderate to severe facial lines. Botox® Cosmetic is leading treatment for expression lines on the forehead, around the eyes, on the nose, and between the eyebrows. The active ingredient in Botox® is neurotoxin called botulinum toxin type A. Small amounts are injected into specific areas and it works by blocking the nerve impulses which weaken the muscles that cause wrinkles. Botox® also prevents new lines from forming.

WHAT IS HYPERHIDROSIS?

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition affecting both men and women where the sweat glands produce more sweat than is necessary to control your body temperature. This can result in very wet, uncomfortable underarms that stain your clothing, increase odor and cause embarrassment in both social and professional settings. It can interfere with everyday life and activities. Over the counter treatment can include the use of prescription strength deodorants, but in many severe cases it is not sufficient. Botox is safe and effective in treating these severe cases. It balances the problem and relieves the condition for several months at a time. Many people who suffer from Hyperhidrosis tell us that they get nervous because they sweat, then sweat more because they are nervous. Dr. Theocharides will discuss your personal concerns and help you to decide if Botox is the solution to your problem.

BOTOX® INJECTIONS – WHAT TO EXPECT

Botox® injections are performed our outpatient cosmetic doctor’s office in Ocean, NJ. You can plan to be here anywhere from 10 – 30 minutes. We ask that you refrain from activities that will cause excessive sweating on the day of treatment (such as intensive exercise or the use of a sauna). We want you to feel as comfortable as possible during treatment. In some cases, we may use an anesthetic cream to numb the treatment area. Botox® injections are very shallow therefore the medicine is injected just below the surface of the skin where it will remain. You may experience temporary bruising, swelling or soreness in the injection sites after treatment. These side effects will subside in one to two days. Gradually, the muscles where the Botox® was injected will regain function. We encourage our patients to return every 3-4 months for repeated treatments. This will maximize the results and benefits of Botox®. Results of Botox® injection typically last up to three or four months depending on where it is injected and the patient.* Botox is not a cure for Hyperhidrosis and most patients will experience a gradual increase in sweating after several months. Dr. Theocharides will work with you to determine the appropriate time for a follow up treatment.
