ABOUT PHOTOFACIAL (BBL™)

Eventually, our face will begin to show how much we’ve aged, no matter how well we care for our skin. Bad habits such as smoking and too much sun exposure can speed up the aging process on our faces. All this leads to wrinkles, dull, splotchy skin, and sagging skin. Dr. Thomas Theocharides offers several light-based skin rejuvenation procedures for those suffering from rosacea, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, large pores, skin laxity, and wrinkles in his Ocean, NJ office. Photofacial treatment is quick, affordable, and virtually pain-free. The photo skin rejuvenation can benefit virtually any part of the body, the most popular treatment areas are the face, neck, chest, and hands.

WHAT IS BBL AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

BBL stands for BroadBand Light, an advanced form of intense pulse light that uses a broad range of wavelengths to allow targeted treatment for multiple skin conditions. Photo-thermal energy heats the upper layers of the skin, stimulating the growth of new collagen. The BBL laser targets and eliminates tiny vessels that cause redness and hyperpigmentation. Generally speaking, the BBL photo rejuvenation is a comfortable procedure. Some patients report mild to moderate discomfort, describing the treatment as feeling like a rubber band snap. Your treatment can take from a couple of minutes up to a half-hour depending on the size and part of the body you are treating.
Dr. Theocharides will use the BBL on virtually any part of the body, but the most popular treatment areas are the face, neck, chest, arms and hands. Patients often report an improvement in the appearance of skin after a single session; however, most patients will see optimal results after 3 to 5 sessions. These treatments are usually spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart, giving the skin a chance to recover between sessions.

The aftercare instructions are very important and should be followed for optimal results. It is important to not pick at the treated areas and do not exfoliate them either. The treated skin will slough off in about one week on the face and about two to three weeks on the body. You should avoid sun exposure as much as possible and use broad-spectrum sunscreen when necessary. For one to two days after, you should avoid heat and sweaty activities including all forms of working out, saunas, and hot tubs.

IPL VS. BBL

BBL is the trademark name for Sciton’s IPL treatment. BBL stands for BroadBand Light, IPL stands for Intense Pulse Light. Both refer to a high energy light source with a broad range of wavelengths that can be used to treat multiple skin conditions.

COST OF THE BBL PHOTOFACIAL IN Ocean, NJ

The cost of BBL photo facial treatment varies based on the individual needs and goals of the patient. During your consultation, Dr. Theocharides will discuss pricing for BBL laser treatments as well as the number of sessions you’ll need and any packages, discounts or financing that might be available.
Can I benefit from BBL if I have tanned skin?
We advise you to avoid the sun for a minimum of three to four weeks before the treatment. This includes natural sun exposure, tanning beds and self tanners. Skin that is tan contains pigment or melanin that will absorb the BroadBand Light.
