Spider veins (telangiectasias) are caused by structural abnormalities of blood vessels. They are typically seen in middle aged women and men. The cause of spider veins is not clear. Researchers believe the causes may be genetics, environmental, or a combination of both. They are often seen or made worse by sun exposure, excess pressure, or hormonal changes. Other causes that may cause spider veins include:
