KYBELLA Frequently Asked Questions
Question: What is KYBELLA?
Answer: KYBELLA is an injectable that’s used to take care of what’s commonly known as a double chin. It’s a prescription treatment that’s the only FDA-approved product specifically designed to get rid of a double chin. Dr. T is proud to be one of the first and only doctors in New Jersey to offer this treatment.
Question: What exactly is KYBELLA used for?
Answer: KYBELLA is specifically designed to take care of excess fat under the chin. Diet and exercise alone often can’t fully get rid of the appearance of a double chin, and it’s something many people aren’t happy with. Having a double chin can come with age, weight gain, and may just be genetic.
Question: What can I expect from the KYBELLA process?
Answer: This is a minimally invasive injectable treatment. The treatment utilizes multiple injections in the chin area to sculpt and shape what the area will look like without the double chin. You can expect to receive about 20-50 injections each time you go for treatment. They’ll schedule appointments for you over a span of 4-6 weeks, usually consisting of 2-4 treatment sessions total. Each one takes about 20 minutes to complete, with no downtime after.
KYBELLA works by destroying fat cells in your chin. It does this by utilizing deoxycholic acid, a substance that naturally occurs in your body. You don’t have to worry about any strange chemicals being used. Since this treatment destroys the fat cells, you also don’t have to worry about getting another round of treatment down the road. After the initial treatment period, you should be set!
Question: Are there risks or side effects of KYBELLA?
Answer: As with many injections, you’ll probably experience redness, tenderness, swelling, and hardness at the injection sites. You may have bruises in that area, as well as numbness. These minor side effects shouldn’t last more than two weeks. If you have any other side effects that are more serious, or the minor ones last longer than two weeks, call us immediately.
Question: Am I a candidate for KYBELLA?
Answer: With every procedure, Dr. T will do a thorough evaluation with you. He’ll ask about your full medical history and cosmetic goals, as well as do a physical examination of the area you’re getting treated. This helps him determine whether or not KYBELLA is right for you, as it isn’t right for every patient.
There are certain things that can lead to poor healing and poor results with KYBELLA. If you’re a smoker, use steroids, have diabetes, or have bad skin quality, KYBELLA may not be for you. It’s likely that you won’t get the results you’re looking for if you have any of these risk factors.
