As a woman ages, her body will go through many physical changes, some of which are unfavorable. The most sensitive issue to discuss is the changes that happen to a woman’s vagina. Age, childbirth, genetics and other factors can contribute to the way your vagina looks and works. Vaginal rejuvenation is now a safe option for women whose vagina has gone through these changes over the years. Dr. Thomas Theocharides (fondly known as Dr. T) has more than 20 years’ experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Asbury Park, NY area. One of his specialties is vaginal rejuvenation to help his patients address:
- Vaginal dryness – changes to a women’s hormone levels as she ages will cause vaginal dryness
- Urinary incontinence – pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, weak or overactive bladder muscles and nerve damage can all cause this.
- Sexual dissatisfaction – disorders of the genitalia and urinary systems as well as conditions such as hypothyroidism can all cause sexual dissatisfaction.
- Vaginal laxity – this decreases sexual satisfaction due to a decrease in friction during intercourse and is typically caused by childbirth or aging.
- Low libido – low libido is typically caused by low self-esteem due to the preceding reasons.
Unfortunately, these issues can be upsetting to you as well as your partner. Vaginal health is a delicate and sometimes frightening issue. Dr. T is compassionate and understanding with each patient and strives to put them at ease. With vaginal rejuvenation, women no longer have to live with low self-esteem and embarrassment in the bedroom.

Labiaplasty is a cosmetic, surgical procedure using local anesthetic. This vaginal rejuvenation procedure will reduce the size and length of the labia minora, the inner lips part of the vulva. The procedure usually takes about 1 hour. Most patients return to work in two to four days after surgery. Sexual activity can typically resume six to eight weeks after the labiaplasty surgical procedure.
When a woman’s labia minora is elongated, the extra tissue can actually cause a lot of pain and discomfort. Some women just do not like the way it looks if one side of the labia minora is disproportionate to the other side. For women athletes, having that excess tissue can cause pain and performance issues during physical activity.
ThermiVa™ is a non-invasive, non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation option to repair a saggy vulva, vaginal looseness, vaginal dryness, incontinence, overactive bladder and sexual dysfunction that has resulted from decreased sensitivity. ThermiVa™ uses radio frequency generated heat to gently tighten targeted areas with no discomfort or down time. Dr. T will perform 3 sessions that last about 30 minutes each. Each session should be spaced one month apart. You should notice the result in a few days and they should last up to a year or longer.
Hymen restoration is an out-patient procedure that usually takes about 1-2 hours to preform and requires little or no downtime. The procedure will normally be performed by Dr. T a few days prior to your event with enough time for internal sutures to heal. Why have your hymen repaired? There are actually a number of personal reasons a hymenoplasty is available to women. These reasons include:
- Cultural expectations
- Religious reasons
- To experience “the first time” again
- As part of the psychological healing process for women who were raped
